Day 1: Arrival in Kunming
After a long-haul flight, I finally arrived in Kunming, the capital city of Yunnan Province. The city is known for its pleasant climate, which is why it's called the Spring City. I checked into my hotel and rested for a while before heading out to explore the city.
I started my journey at the翠湖公园 (Cuihu Park), where I witnessed the locals enjoying their morning exercises, such as Tai Chi and ballroom dancing. The park is beautiful and offers a great opportunity to relax and observe the local lifestyle.
In the afternoon, I visited the 云南省博物馆 (Yunnan Provincial Museum), which showcases the rich history and culture of the region. The exhibits include artifacts from the ancient kingdom of Dian, as well as items from the Tibetans, Yi, and Bai people who call Yunnan home.
Day 2: Kunming to大理 (Dali)
After a hearty breakfast at a local restaurant, I took a high-speed train to Dali, a city nestled along the banks of Erhai Lake. Upon arrival, I checked into a charming B&B and spent the afternoon exploring the 大理古城 (Old Town of Dali). The cobblestone streets, traditional architecture, and vibrant markets made me feel as if I had stepped back in time.
In the evening, I walked along the洱海湖边 (Erhai Lake) and enjoyed the stunning sunset. The lake is surrounded by the snow-capped peaks of the Cang Mountains, creating a picturesque landscape.
Day 3: Dali to丽江 (Lijiang)
After a delicious breakfast at my B&B, I hired a bike and cycled around Erhai Lake. The scenery was breathtaking, and I couldn't help but stop every now and then to take photos.
In the afternoon, I took a bus to Lijiang, a city famous for its well-preserved ancient town and rich cultural heritage. Upon arrival, I checked into a guesthouse and rested for a while before exploring the 丽江古城 (Old Town of Lijiang). The UNESCO World Heritage Site is known for its traditional architecture, canals, and cobblestone streets.
Day 4: Lijiang
I started my day with a visit to 木府 (Mufu), the former residence of the ancient丽江木氏土司 (Mu Clan). The palace is now a museum that showcases the clan's history and culture.
After lunch, I embarked on a journey to the 玉龙雪山 (Jade Dragon Snow Mountain), a famous scenic spot in Lijiang. I took a cable car to the top of the mountain, where I was rewarded with stunning views of the surrounding landscapes.
In the evening, I attended a traditional Naxi performance, which included music, dance, and storytelling. The performance was a great way to learn more about the local culture and customs.
Day 5: Lijiang to丽江雪山 (Yulong Snow Mountain)
On my final day in Lijiang, I decided to visit the 丽江雪山 (Yulong Snow Mountain), another famous scenic spot in the area. I took a tour bus to the mountain and hiked to the top, where I was treated to breathtaking views of the snow-capped peaks and the surrounding forests.
After descending the mountain, I returned to Lijiang and spent the rest of the day shopping for souvenirs and local handicrafts.
My 5-day trip to Yunnan was an unforgettable experience. The region's natural beauty, rich history, and diverse culture made it a true pleasure to explore. I can't wait to return and discover more of Yunnan's hidden gems.
